UZakariya wamthatha uMariya wamyisa ekhaya lakhe, wamshiya kunina, wamtholela umzanyana; kwathi lapho uMariya esefikile ebudaleni, wamyisa ethempelini ukuze afeze isifungo sikanina. UMariya wahlala egumbini elithile lapho.
Njengoba kushiwo eQur’an, uNkulunkulu wamthanda futhi wamkhulisa njengesitshalo esihle. Izingelosi zathi kuye,
“O Meryem! U-Allah ukukhethile, ukuhlambululile, wakuphakamisa ngaphezu kwabesifazane bomhlaba. Khuleka eNkosini yakho, khothama, ukhothame kanye nabakhothama.”

Njengoba uZakariya, owayesekhulile kakhulu, wayengasakwazi ukunakekela uMaryamu, wacela abakwa-Israyeli ukuba bamtholele umuntu owayezomvikela. Ngokuvotelwa, uMaryamu wanikwa ukuba abe ngaphansi kokuvikelwa kukaYusufu, indodana yomzala wakhe.
